Courage, Dear Heart (Anxiety and Grief Support)

from $15.00

A lovingly prepared herbal blend to support those experiencing anxiety, grief, depression, heartache, emotional shock, nervousness, and related symptoms of the physical and emotional heart.

When we tend to think of herbs “for the heart,” we tend to think of conditions like high blood pressure or cholesterol. But, central to a holistic model of herbal medicine is understanding that human beings are made of more than just these physically observable chemicals and tissues. We are emotional and spiritual creatures too. Medicinal plants were given to us to affect even these deeper nonphysical facets of our being. Nervines are a category of plants herbalists use to gently calm or restore function to the nervous system - essentially, your sensory, feeling and emotional capacity.

The brain is the most obvious nerve center of the body, but scientists have also recognized large concentrations of neural tissue, also called a “little brain” in the heart, (called the intrinsic cardiac nervous system) and the gut, (called the enteric nervous system.) These feeling centers in the body are all constantly communicating with one another.

Why do you think we use terms like, “I have a gut feeling,” or “my heart is broken?" We’re explaining something very real. Think of the elderly man whose wife passes away, and then he himself joins her in death within days because the grief is simply too much for his body to process. People who are under stress, experiencing grief or anxiety tend to manifest physical symptoms in one or more of these three areas of the body. Think of someone who gets a fluttery, palpitating or racing heart when nervous or stressed. Maybe they get sweaty. They might feel a literal ache or a tightening in the chest, making it hard to breathe.

This herbal tincture blend is composed of nervine plant extracts which are known to have a strong affinity for the heart, to be stabilizing for the emotions, uplifting for the mood and calming to the nerves.

As the good King Aslan put it in C.S. Lewis’ famous book series The Chronicles of Narnia, “Courage, dear heart.” When all seems hopeless and lost, “Courage, dear heart.”
